The building and public works sector represents more than 75,000 companies in Belgium! More than 200,000 employees and over 50,000 self-employed people work in this sector. When we talk about the building sector, we’re referring to many different areas, such as construction, fitting out and building architecture.
There are many players involved in these fields, and their functions require rigor. As for public works, they define different infrastructures. Their aim is to build and provide public infrastructures for the country’s inhabitants. This applies to transport (roads, airports, railroads, etc.), electrical work, general earthworks, pipelines, etc. The field of building and civil engineering echoes another notion: that of urban planning. It’s the art of planning a territory to meet the needs of its inhabitants, while preserving the surrounding environment. Urban planning and construction are therefore inseparable!
